FIA Launches Inspection as Two F1 Teams Are Summoned Amid Regulatory Scrutiny
In a significant development ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the FIA has ramped up its technical oversight, launching fresh inspections and summoning multiple Formula 1 teams over suspected breaches of regulations. This action comes in the wake of recent disqualifications and growing concerns over compliance with the sport’s stringent technical rules.
McLaren was among the first under scrutiny, with Lando Norris’ car undergoing a detailed inspection following the Japanese Grand Prix. The FIA’s technical team examined his vehicle to ensure full conformity with existing rules, though no immediate penalties were reported.
More notably, Ferrari and Mercedes have both been summoned by the FIA following controversial disqualifications of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese Grand Prix. These incidents raised eyebrows in the paddock, prompting FIA officials to intensify their review process. The governing body is now believed to be revisiting procedures across several teams to ensure a level playing field.
Additionally, the Williams F1 Team faces its own investigation for an alleged breach of Articles 3.2.2 and 3.15.16 of the FIA Technical Regulations. The team reportedly failed to submit critical onboard video footage within the required timeframe, sparking concerns about data transparency and procedural adherence.
These inquiries coincide with internal shifts at the FIA, most notably the resignation of Deputy President for Sport, Robert Reid. Reid cited issues surrounding governance and transparency as key reasons for his departure, casting a spotlight on the organization’s internal dynamics.
As the season progresses and the Bahrain GP looms, these inspections could set a precedent for more rigorous enforcement in 2025. With multiple teams under the microscope, the pressure is mounting to meet the FIA’s standards and avoid further penalties or controversy on the grid.
