In a momentous tribute to one of Finland’s greatest sporting legends, a statue honoring Kimi-Matias Räikkönen, affectionately known as The Iceman, will be unveiled in Espoo, his hometown, on November 20th.

The former Formula One World Champion, revered for his cool demeanor, unfiltered honesty, and blistering pace on the racetrack, will now be forever immortalized in bronze. This statue is not just a celebration of his incredible motorsport achievements, but a national tribute to a cultural icon who has captured the hearts of millions worldwide.
The statue will be placed in a central square in Espoo, near the town’s sports complex—where many young athletes train and dream of global glory, much like Räikkönen once did.
“Kimi represents what it means to be authentically Finnish—resilient, fearless, and true to oneself,” said a spokesperson from the Espoo City Council. “It’s time we honored that spirit in a way that will inspire generations.”
The unveiling ceremony is expected to draw large crowds, including fellow Finnish sporting legends, motorsport figures, and long-time fans of Räikkönen. While the driver himself has remained characteristically quiet about the event, those close to him say he’s honored by the gesture.
Designed by renowned Finnish sculptor Aimo Tukiainen II, the statue is said to depict Räikkönen in a calm, composed pose, wearing his iconic racing suit and helmet at his side—symbolizing both his icy resolve and his readiness to race.
Kimi Räikkönen’s legacy spans over two decades, with 21 Grand Prix victories and a legendary World Championship win in 2007. Yet for many, it’s not just his stats but his enigmatic personality, rare interviews, and timeless quotes like “Leave me alone, I know what I’m doing” that have defined his legend.
November 20th will now mark more than just a celebration—it will be a historic day for Finnish motorsport and for the people of Espoo, who will forever have their champion watching over them.
