With her most recent triumph, Sha'Carri Richardson has earned a place to the Olympic Games in Paris and is once again the fastest woman in America. The 24-year-old Richardson put separation between herself and the competition in the final 15 meters of the race to win the 100 meters at the Olympic Trials in 10.71 seconds. Team USA finished with Melissa Jefferson in second place (10.80) and Twanisha “TeeTee” Terry in third place (10.89). In Clermont, Florida, the three women train together at Star Athletics, where they are coached by Dennis Mitchell. Richardson, who tripped out of the starting blocks in the first round but recovered to win the race with one shoe undone, had the best race of the meet. She got off to another slow start in the semifinal, but she rapidly caught up and won the heat in 10.86. The 200-meter first round, which starts on Thursday, June 27, will be her next competition. Two days later, on June 29, at 5:27 p.m. PT, the final would be fought.
