Kentucky Makes the Cut for Top-5 Recruit Anthony Thompson
The Kentucky Wildcats continue to make waves on the recruiting trail, landing among the top 15 finalists for elite 2026 basketball prospect Anthony Thompson. The 6-foot-8 forward from Lebanon, Ohio, is considered one of the most versatile and skilled players in his class, currently ranked No. 5 nationally by On3. Known for his scoring touch, length, and high basketball IQ, Thompson has drawn comparisons to modern NBA wings due to his ability to shoot from deep and guard multiple positions.
Thompson’s inclusion of Kentucky in his top schools is a major win for new head coach Mark Pope and his staff. The Wildcats extended an offer during Thompson’s visit to Big Blue Madness in October 2024, and the relationship has only strengthened since. He returned to Lexington in January to watch Kentucky’s dominant performance against Florida at Rupp Arena, an experience that reportedly left a strong impression on the young star.
Joining Kentucky in Thompson’s top 15 are other powerhouse programs including North Carolina, Michigan, Kansas, Texas, Ohio State, Louisville, and Michigan State, among others. Despite the early stage of his recruitment, Kentucky is believed to be one of the stronger contenders thanks to consistent contact and Thompson’s comfort with the program.
With the Wildcats aiming to reestablish their dominance in college basketball under Pope, landing a player of Thompson’s caliber would be a significant step forward. His decision isn’t expected until later in 2025, but all signs point to Kentucky remaining heavily in the mix. As the recruitment battle heats up, Big Blue Nation will be watching closely, hopeful that Thompson will ultimately choose to wear the blue and white in Lexington.
