Serena Williams is making it clear that she is not lightening her skin. The tennis star has been accused by fans online that she is using products to appear lighter.
āFor all the haters out there, I do not bleach my skin,ā she said via Instagram Live on Monday, Dec. 2. āThereās something called sunlight and in different lighting, you get different shades.ā
She told fans that she loves who she is and decided to speak out because she wanted to clear up the rumors.
āIām a dark, Black woman, and I love who I am, and I love how I look, and thatās just not my thing,ā Williams said. āAnd if people do it thatās their thing and they have every opportunity and they should.ā
āI donāt judge, but you guys do,ā she continued. āBut thatās what this world is about and I stay in my lane, the non-judgy one. But no, I actually donāt bleach my skin, so can we just kinda clear that up?ā

While Williams is clearing up rumors, the 23-time Grand Slam champion is off toĀ putting fitness at the forefront of her life again.
āIāve gotten obsessed, moreĀ obsessed with diet and exercise, I think, than when I was playing tennis,ā Williams tells PEOPLE. āI knew that I was going to burn 20,000 calories a day, and now Iām like, āOh my god, I donāt know how many calories Iām going to be able to burn!āā
Williams announced her retirementĀ from tennis after 26 years, she still has new goals she wants to hit.
āLook at me,ā Williams tells the publication. āIām trying to compete ā not compete, rephrase ā trying to do a half-marathon. Thatās my new goal. So itās just like I have to do something competitive. I miss tennis like crazy.ā
She continues, āBut as a woman, I had to make different choices that I probably wouldnāt have had to make if I were a guy, but thatās okay, I love that. I love that I chose my family and I want to be around them every single day of my life. And I try to do that, and I just figure I want to be the GOAT at something else. And for me, thatās being a mom right now.ā
