Darwin Nunez shows true colours as footage emerges from Jurgen Klopp’s night out

The Liverpool striker has struggled for form this season and has now shocked fans with an apparent gesture at Klopp’s leaving ceremony which took place at Anfield on Sunday

Anfield may have been a cauldron of emotion as Liverpool bid farewell to Jurgen Klopp but some fans believe Darwin Nunez may have not felt the quite the same as everyone else..

The atmosphere was one of party and celebration inside the famous stadium as Liverpool fans had their chance to say goodbye to their legendary manager after nine years. The farewell event that took place post match managed to even eclipse the game itself which in itself was a routine 2-0 win for the Reds over Gary O’Neil’s Wolves.

However, an account on X believes they have deciphered, from a video clip, one player who was not willing to indulge in the big auf wiedersehen for Klopp. The video shows Klopp walking onto the pitch at Anfield for his guard of honour where players and staff have lined up to applaud the German, but Nunez does not appear to clap along with everyone else and seems to keep his emotions very much in check.

Whether the small gesture, or lack of one, by Nunez hints at a wider riff with Klopp or the club it’s hard to say. But what is true is that the Liverpool number has found himself in and out of the side lately after a glaring run of fixtures where he missed several high-profile chances and then found himself at the mercy of some fans on social media.

The apparent snub to the Liverpool boss also comes after a period where the 24-year-old caused a minor social media frenzy in the aftermath of the 4-2 victory over Tottenham.

Nunez headed straight down the tunnel at full-time in the Spurs win and then proceeded to cause strife by removing every Liverpool-related picture from his social media page. The striker also appeared to block supporters who had voiced their annoyance as reported by the Mirror.

The reserved nature of Nunez at the Anfield goodbye party appeared to briefly cement Nunez’s future with the Reds amongst some supporters, until another twist in the tale revealed itself later on in the evening. Despite Nunez’s restraint at the Anfield farewell festivities, another video then emerged from a party for Klopp which was held at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

The clip shows the big South American forward playfully pushing his now former boss onto the dance floor as he encourages him to dance the night away. Whether the clip of Nunez ushering Klopp into a two-step is enough to convince Reds’ fans their number nine will stay in Merseyside, well time will tell, however another big hint was then dropped that all is well with Nunez and the Reds.

While Nunez has yet to join a chorus of goodbyes from many in the Liverpool squad on social media, the former Benfica marksman has now changed his profile photograph on Instagram to an image of himself with his family all wearing the latest Liverpool home jersey on the pitch at Anfield. Liverpool captain Van Dijk summed up the mood around Anfield with the defender talking to Sky Sports after the game saying: “I’ve got no words, it’s an emotional day. Liverpool is special. It was always going to be a tough afternoon for everyone for different reasons.”

Nunez has 33 goals in 96 appearances for Liverpool and while he may have found himself on the fringes in the final seven games of this campaign he has still registered 18 goals and 13 assists this season. The enigma of Nunez may continue to baffle fans, and perhaps was one that Klopp himself struggled to solve, meaning new incoming boss Arne Slot will have a big decision to make over Liverpool’s £85 million wildcard.
