Why Mohamed Salah arrived at Liverpool training in a suit amid new contract theory

Liverpool posted a picture of Mohamed Salah arriving at the club’s training ground in a suit and bow tie. The Egyptian’s future remains the source of much speculation.

Liverpool set tongues wagging on Wednesday morning as Mohamed Salah was pictured at the club’s AXA Training Centre. The Egyptian, fresh from scoring the winner against Brighton, was looking particularly dapper as he arrived suited and booted.

The Reds posted a picture of Salah on its official social media accounts alongside the caption ‘Mo is a man on a mission today’ and supporters were quick to speculate the reasons behind the smart attire.

A number of fans suggested Salah could be about to end speculation over his future by signing a new contract at the club. The 31-year-old is out of contract in 2025 and is yet to agree an extension to stay put.

It doesn’t appear that any ‘important business meeting’ is on the cards though and is instead part of the club’s investment in World Earth Month. Liverpool has teamed up with SC Johnson to create a hilarious clip involving Salah, Andy Robertson, Darwin Núñez, Dominik Szoboszlai, Caoimhín Kelleher and Ibrahima Konaté.

A team meeting is led by full-back Robertson as the players are tasked with coming up with ideas for a series of topics. On the list are plans for Jürgen Klopp’s leaving do and spring wardrobes, as well as more importantly World Earth Month.

Salah initially storms out of the meeting after not being given a drink by Robertson before the Scot asks his teammates for suggestions on what they can do for the planet. Each of the Liverpool players comes up with suggestions before a rallying speech from Núñez.

Szoboszlai then adds: “We need to think bigger, we need to think Hollywood. Let’s get a big star like Daniel Craig. We just need someone as famous”, before Kelleher responds: “He needs to look good in a suit.”

It is at that point that Salah returns to the room with his coffee and his teammates all look at each other with the same thought. The clip then pans to the Egyptian starring in a James Bond-like trailer for the movie ‘Licence to Recycle’.

The clip is part of Liverpool’s The Red Way strategy which was launched in 2021 to promote sustainability, with a commitment to creating a better future.
