Liverpool without nine players for Burnley as illness outbreak sweeps through squad

Jurgen Klopp will be forced to deal with several key players on the sidelines for Liverpool’s clash against Burnley.
The Reds welcome the Clarets to Anfield this afternoon for their Premier League clash. Liverpool go into the game on the back of a defeat to Arsenal, which was their first in the top flight since the end of September.
Liverpool will be buoyed by the return of Wataru Endo to the matchday squad today. The midfielder has missed the last seven Reds fixtures as he starred for Japan at the Asian Cup over the last few weeks.
However, some players will not be available for today’s game. One player who is set to miss out is Ibrahima Konate, who received two yellow cards against Arsenal and will serve his one-game ban against Burnley.
On the injury front, Thiago Alcantara is the latest name to be added to the treatment room, after making his first appearance since last April against the Gunners. Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai have also both been ruled out for the game against the Clarets.
Mohamed Salah has not played for Liverpool since New Year’s Day, having been at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt and then suffering an injury while on international duty. The forward has been stepping up his recovery but is not expected to be available to face Burnley.
Dominik Szoboszlai has spent the majority of 2024 on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. He made his return against Chelsea last week but missed the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday after dealing with a similar fitness issue and has been ruled out for today’s game.
Liverpool will be without Conor Bradley for today’s game as he mourns the death of his father. Bradley missed the defeat to Arsenal after his father, Joe, passed away.
Liverpool were dealt a fresh injury blow when Thiago Alcantara sustained a hamstring issue against Arsenal. The midfielder is now expected to be on the sidelines once again with a potential return date unclear.
Kostas Tsimikas has been on the sidelines since December 23 after suffering a broken collarbone against Arsenal at Anfield. the left-back has been stepping up his recovery in recent weeks but is not yet expected to return to the matchday squad.
Joel Matip is set to be on the sidelines for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury. The centre-back’s contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign, meaning there is a chance he has played his final game for Liverpool.
Liverpool are guaranteed to be without Ibrahima Konate for today’s game against Burnley. The centre-back will serve a one-game suspension for the two yellow cards he picked up in the loss to Arsenal.
Liverpool have been without Stefan Bajcetic for the majority of the season, with the teenager not featuring since September due to a calf injury. It remains unclear when the midfielder will return to the matchday squad.
