Liverpool now want to sign ‘special’ player deemed the best in his position behind Rodri

Liverpool’s search for new midfielders seem to be never ending given they brought in a whole team in that position in the summer.

The Reds went out and signed Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in the summer.

However, it looks like that still might not be enough for Liverpool who are now also apparently looking into signing Spanish midfield star, Martin Zubimendi.

Liverpool looking to sign Martin Zubimendi

According to a report from Football Transfers, Liverpool’s quest to sign new midfield talent has now taken them down the route of looking at Zubimendi.

The young Real Sociedad star is one of the most in-demand players in Europe in his position and has Arsenal among his admirers from the summer.

Zubimendi, 25, is highly-rated over in Spain and was recently tipped as the second best player in his position behind only Rodri.

“They’ve got three or four players that are really lovely to watch. Take Kubo is a really good player to watch. Brais Mendez is really nice. Martin Zubimendi is, I think, just about as good a deep-lying midfielder as there is in Europe, apart from maybe Rodri,” Spanish football expert Sid Lowe said.

With a release clause of around £53m, there could well be a big scramble for the Spaniard in the summer.

A classy operator

Liverpool have a lot of talent in the midfield and a lot of players who are high tempo and work well with Jurgen Klopp’s pressing.

However, they don’t have someone quite like Zubimendi, who is more easy on the eye and likes to be calm and calculated in possession.

Indeed, if Xabi Alonso takes over from Klopp, you can very much see how Zubimendi will fit into Liverpool.

Dubbed a ‘special‘ talent by Fabrizio Romano, he’s a player to watch and given the interest in him going into the summer, we could be in for an almighty scramble for his signature.
