‘A blow’: Chris Sutton reacts to what he’s hearing about £60m Liverpool player now
Chris Sutton has given his verdict on speculation that Liverpool will miss Dominik Szoboszlai for a while.
The former Chelsea striker and BBC Sport pundit has also predicted how Liverpool will fare against Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
So, what has Chris Sutton said about Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai and Burnley? Let’s take a look.
Chris Sutton comments on Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai
Liverpool will take on Burnley at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds will head into the match against the Clarets on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in the league.
Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table with 51 points from 23 matches. Jurgen Klopp’s side are two points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal, who are second and third respectively in the standings. City have played 22 games.
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has backed Liverpool to hammer Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, but he thinks that losing Dominik Szoboszlai to injury is a blow.
Szoboszlai, who joined Liverpool for £60 million (Sky Sports) in the summer of 2023, did not play against Arsenal due to a hamstring injury and could be out of action for four weeks.
Burnley, who won automatic promotion from the Championship at the end of last season, are in danger of going down.
The Clarets have picked up just 13 points from 23 matches in the Premier League and are seven points off safety.
Sutton told BBC Sport: “I was surprised by how poor Liverpool were against Arsenal, because I’d covered their game against Chelsea a few days earlier when they were absolutely flying.
“Reds midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is out for a month, which is a blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side but, even so, I still cannot make a case for a Burnley win – I’ve thought they were going to be relegated for a long time.
“Liverpool cannot afford to slip up, and I don’t think they will. They know what is at stake with Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season.
“I don’t know if Darwin Nunez will be fit enough to start but even if he isn’t I am expecting Liverpool to overwhelm Burnley.
“Goalkeeper James Trafford did really well to keep the Clarets in the game at Turf Moor in December but Liverpool should wrap up the points a lot earlier, and much easier, this time.
“Sutton’s prediction: 4-0.”
Dominik Szoboszlai a big player for Liverpool
In my opinion, Dominik Szoboszlai is a big player for Liverpool and has been one of the best players for the Reds this season.
The 23-year-old is a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park and has been compared to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool will miss Szoboszlai during his spell on the sidelines. The youngster has scored three goals and given two assists in 20 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.
