‘He is a really good athlete’: Steve McManaman blown away by ‘proper’ Liverpool player v Chelsea

This could be a parting gift from Jurgen Klopp, the emergence of Conor Bradley who is going from strength to strength in Liverpool colours.

This time last season, the 20-year-old was proving his worth in the colours of Bolton of League One, but it’s a different kettle of fish stepping up and proving your worth on the Premier League stage.

Liverpool ripped Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea apart on Wednesday night by recording a 4-1 win, with Conor Bradley bagging himself a goal and two assists.

Steve McManman has hailed the impact and improvement of the right-back by describing him as a ‘really, really good athlete’, as he told Premier League Productions (31/01/24 at 10:25 pm).

Ahead of the trip to Arsenal in a blockbuster Premier League title race on Sunday, this now provides Jurgen Klopp with a selection headache.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is his main man and he has probably been the best player in the Premier League this season.

So, how does Jurgen Klopp treat this situation? There could be the option of putting Trent Alexander-Arnold in the middle of the park, as Steve McManaman alluded to.

Conor Bradley’s rise

“His improvement in such a short space of time has been fantastic,” said McManaman. “Everybody at the academy is incredibly proud of him.

“He has done everything asked of him. Come on leaps and bounds. It’s not a foregone conclusion now that Trent would come in now at right-back against Arsenal, arguably the biggest game of the season.

“He’s had such a good game. It’s great because Liverpool now, off the pitch if they need to, could easily push Trent into midfield and play Conor Bradley. He was excellent tonight. Defensively, he was very, very strong. He played the game like a proper game.

“He is a really good athlete. He is probably still going to grow more because, the more he plays at the higher level, the more he will grow in experience and physically as well. He has great energy.”

Liverpool thrash Chelsea

It wasn’t so long ago that Liverpool and Chelsea were battling with one another for the title and in domestic finals right to the wire.

But the gulf in class between the two out there at Anfield was quite incredible.

This is a Chelsea side that has spent millions and millions, and even more. Yet it’s Liverpool, who they even beat to a number of big signings, sitting top of the table and a mammoth 20 points ahead of the tenth-placed London club.

The two are going to meet in the League Cup final, and at this rate, it’s going to be another beating for Pochettino and his men.
